Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

(a) It is an all-encompassing mini farm designed for those who want a farm but with space constraints, someone who wants a semi-automated farming process. Check out the Little Sparrow specifications for more details.

(a) Little Sparrow helps to protect plants from harsh weather and lower occurrence of pests.

(b) It will reduce rates of transpiration and evaporation

(a) Materials ranging from aluminium to reinforced PP materials are used in the construction of Little Sparrow. All materials used are suitable for outdoor planting.

(a) Little Sparrow is customizable in height and length. Minimum length / width is 40cm x 40cm.  However, to fully utilize the full function of Little Sparrow, we recommend a length of at least 320cm. Please contact us for a discussion so that we can work it out together.

(a) Soilless medium like cocopeat, leca, etc can be used. Nutrients needed by the plants will be fed from the nutrient water tank included in Little Sparrow.

(b) For enthusiasts who still prefer soil-based, organic growing, it can be done too. Just substitute the nutrient tank with normal water and you are good to go.

(a) We believe that it is highly beneficial for students to start their farming journey from the basics: physically handling the plants and growing medium, watering the plants and learning to care for the plants. This would help build a strong foundation in the science behind farming, which can then be applied to more complex growing systems. A vertical growing system has many more considerations than a single-layer system, hence, it is not ideal for beginners.

(b) However, if the school have any experienced gardeners and are confident in running a vertical growing system, we would be more than willing to provide a vertical growing system. Do note that additional costs will be incurred.

(a) No, the fertiliser used is synthetic. Organic fertilisers are all slow-release fertilisers; this is because the bacteria breaks down the fertilisers to their inorganic ions which are then absorbed by the plants. However, synthetic fertilisers directly deliver the required ions to the roots of the plants. This ensures a faster rate of uptake of necessary ions that promote a faster plant growth.

(b) The synthetic fertiliser does not compromise food safety.

(a) Although the greenhouse is no longer available, upgrades to the greenhouse like improving ventilation etc is still available.

(b) Upgrading of farming system from your original setup to something more sophisticated can be done.

(c) Additional stock for the greenhouse is no longer available, however, we recommend Little Sparrow to complement what you already have.
